The Delta Topco album History Magic XYZ, explained

image

Artist Name

The name “Delta Topco” is intellectual property of the Topco organisation, a holding company by top magnate Bernie Ecclestone. It’s the business holding that operates all Formula 1 activities. Pretty fancy but quite under the radar to the outside world. It is an umbrella name of many daughter companies in direct involvement with the world’s most expensive sport. Notice also how there is a Japanese character “金” sandwiched in the middle. This is done to symbolise the Japanese influence and if you wonder what that Japanese character stands for, well, it means “Gold”.  Delta is the fourth letter in the Greek alphabet and hereby also represents my “fourth” artist alias incarnation.

Artwork

The D金T sculpture statue embodies both; parts of the Japanese Gundam robot and the Greek statue Nike of Samothrace, suggesting that the damaged Winged Victory of Samothrace is basically pieced back together with Gundam parts, representing old and new parts being used to create something new. Old samples, new technology is D金T. Set on a background inspired by Boulder Hill, the M.A.S.K. cartoon landscape, evoking 80s culture.

Carat
Samples Japanese pop music fusing with experimental 70’s funk. It’s the pumpiest-partiest song on this album and server as great opener. Carat of course stands for the value of gold, which is an essential part of the artist name 金.
Golden Ratio
Basically a fascinating mathematical term you should look up. A librarian muzak reinterpretation that should inspire you to check up on the golden ratio while your fingers are stroking book-spines, preferably in one the world’s top 20 libraries, however Permeke will do just fine.
History><Magic
The short yet sweet title track of the album. Extra depth sits in the kick drum to emphasise sweet nothing. Flashes of history and magic are evoked, with a happy saxophone ending.
United Colours of 金
Well, this one is all about Beneton, an Italian family that grew exponentially during the eighties. Apart from a leading clothing company they’re probably most known for their involvement in Formula 1. Beneton always playing on the essence of human equality, mixing up cultures and races in all their designs and advertisements. Hence, united colours stand for the colourful clothes they make but also for the mixed colours of all the world race, showing we are all one: human.
INVESDFGPPPSPE®
A tax-return song and how people try to evade them. Belgium has one of the highest tax rates in the world so this song symbolises the duality of my country, playing heavy with the stereo effect, north and south, Flemish and French speaking communities somehow talking English to each other. Ideally to be experienced in headphones.
Galaxa1
If you know who Galaxa is you know your Flemish heritage well. She is the beautiful fairy of light that’s guiding Johan The Red Knight through all his adventures. A comic book character by Karel Bideloo who dared to take his imaginary knowledge beyond the traditional knight tales and imported lots of great elements into the storylines.
NINJETTI_KIM
This is a tricky song that I decided to dedicate to Kimberly the Pink Ranger from the Power Rangers, an American TV-show heavily influenced by Japanese 70’s and 80’s Super Sentei adventures series. As kid I watched a lot of Choudenshi Bioman through French TV, the fore-runner that would lay the foundations for the format of the Power Rangers.
Brocephus
Sounds Greek right? Not only is Greek mythology one of my favourite subjects, this one throws it completely around and is basically just an American slang for brother or broski. Here comes the saxophone again entwined with a chorus of “One Love”. In other words: One Botherly Love, love thy neighbour as thy love yourself, a biblical term.
W A I T
Don’t be haste. Take your time. Suppress society’s hasty needs. Wait for the right thing. But don’t confuse it with lazy. Don’t be lazy. Lazy is not a virtue. Patience is a virtue. Good things come to those who WAIT.
8000/2000
Ooh, more number’s symbolism. A very personal one representing the 2 provincial codes of where I have lived in Belgium. 8000 is the region code for West Flanders, the region where I grew up and most of my family still lives. 2000 is the provincial region code for Antwerpen, the region where I currently live.
iGOT1T
Another number 1 inside the song titles, previously used in Galaxa1. Basically a self-determined goal, a drift inside the human competitive condition. Wanting to be the number 1. A song for winners and losers, to the point of frustration. A very ego-driven song, in search for love and meaning, sampling the sentence “I got it! Watch me!”.
<AUDIATOR>
Last but not least, a rolling in the deep song about daring to take calculated risks. Reinvent and reconstruct, in this art form: audio files get stacked together like different golden Lego cubes to build a new Auditorium of audio magic, that is where the Audiator lives.
